Department of Physics and Electronics

Brief  introduction of  the Department
The Department of Physics, Electronics and Earth Sciences of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences was headed at inception by Prof. M. K. Fasasi  who was on one year sabbatical leave from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.  After the expiration of his sabbatical leave, the Department was coordinated by Mr. A. Yusuf, while Prof. M. K. Fasasi was still assisting in the smooth running of the Department. Mr. H. S. Bolarinwa was appointed in February, 2011  as the  Coordinator of Department.  Prof M. K. Fasasi is also still assisting in the running of the activities of the Department.
The Department   has registered thirty two students since the inception of the University on 14th January, 2008.  Seven students were registered in 2007/08 academic session, two students in the 2008/09 academic session, six students in the 2009/10 academic session, two students in 2010/11 academic session, twelve students in 2011/12 session and two students in 2012/13 session
The Department of Physics, Electronics and Earth sciences currently runs programme in PHYSICS WITH ELECTRONICS. This programme enjoys FULL ACCREDITATION.  Other programmes to be run by the Department from the commencement of the 2013/ 2014 session include:

·         Physics
·         Geophysics
·         Geology
The Department has a well furnished, equipped laboratory and workshop for teaching and research.

Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of the Programme

a.       To provide students with a broad, balanced knowledge and practical skills in their programme.
b.       To instil in students a sense of enthusiasm in their chosen programme, and appreciation of its applications in different contexts.
c.       To involve the students in intellectually simulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.
d.       To develop in students the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in their  chosen programme
e.       To develop in students through an education in Physics with electronics, Geology and Geophysics a range of transferable skills of value in their programme and other areas.
f.        To provide students with knowledge and skills base for further studies in Physics with electronics, Geology and Geophysics or multi-disciplinary areas involving their programme.
