Sermon Delivered on Friday 12TH RABI’UL THAANII, 1437 (22ND JANUARY, 2016)

THE REMEMBRANCE AFTER SALAT

In the Name of Allah, the most Gracious, the Most Merciful

JUM’AT SERMON OF 22ND JANUARY, 2016 (12TH RABI’UL THAANII, 1437)

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu

All Praise is due to Allah who created all creatures and granted them beautiful, wholesome provisions. He created the Heavens without any visible pillars. I praise Him, I seek His forgiveness and I repent unto Him. I seek blessings and peace upon the one after whom there is no prophet. The guide to the path of Guidance, and the one who stands by the Straight Path. I ask Allah to shower him with blessings and peace and his entire family, companions and all of us collectively. Aameen.

Our topic today is “The remembrance after salat as legislated by the Prophet (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)”. Allah created all religions and chose Islam for us as a way of life. He sent His Messenger with the Guidance and the Religion of Truth to make it apparent over and above all other religions. Allah commanded us to obey and follow His Messenger in matters of worship. Allah says:

[And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)]. (Q59:7).

He also says:

[Nor does he speak of desire. It is only a revelation revealed]. (Q53:3-4).

He also says:

[Say (O Muhammad to mankind): "If you (really) love Allah, then follow me (i.e. Muhammad), Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Say: "Obey Allah and the Messenger.'' But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers.] (Q3:31-32).

[Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much]. (Q33:21)

[But no, by your Lord, they can have no faith, until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission] (Q4:65).

[He who obeys the Messenger, has indeed obeyed Allah, but he who turns away, then We have not sent you as a watcher over them]. (Q4:80).

[And let those beware who oppose the Messenger's commandment, lest some Fitnah should befall them or a painful torment be inflicted on them]. (Q24:63)

Concerning this the Prophet said in the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him): “All members of my nation shall enter the paradise except those who refuse to enter it.” He was asked who will refuse and he replied: “Those who obey me have entered the paradise but those who disobey me have refused to enter it” (Al-Bukhaari). The prophet also commanded us to observe salat as he observed it when he was reported to have said in a hadith: “Pray as you have seen me praying”. In view of the above, I say, the prophet’s prayer involves every act he performed or commanded, beginning from purification to ablution, adhaan, iqaamah and every other act he performed or commanded in prayer up to the salutation. It also includes what the prophet practiced after these in terms of remembrance. Among his remembrance after the salat are the following:

Astaghfirullaah. I ask for Allah’s forgiveness (thrice).

Allahumma antas salaam, wa minkas salaam, tabaarakta yaa dhal jalaali walikraam. O Allah, You are the Perfect Peace and peace comes from You. Blessed are You, O Owner of majesty and honour.

Laa ilaaha illallahu wahdahu laa shariika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa alaa kulli shay’in qadeer. Allahumma laa maani’a lima a’tayt, wa laa mu’tiya lima mana’t, wa laa yanfa’u dhal jadi minkal jadu. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone who has no partner. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise; He has power over all things. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You have withheld; and no wealth or majesty can benefit anyone, as from You is all wealth and majesty.

Laa ilaaha illallahu, mukhlisiina lahu deen walaw karihal kaafiruun. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone who has no partner. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise; He has power over all things. There is no power or might except by Allah. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and we do not worship any other besides Him. Grace and bene!cence are His and to Him belongs the most excellent praise. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. (We are) sincere in making our religious devotion to Him, even though the disbelievers may dislike it.

Subhaanallaah, walhamdulillaah, wallahu akbar. How perfect Allah is, all praise be to Allah, and Allah is the Greatest (33 times each).

Laa ilaaha illallahu wahdahu laa shariika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa alaa kulli shay’in qadeer. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone who has no partner. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise; He has power over all things.

[With the Name of Allah, the All Merciful, the Most Merciful. “Say: I take refuge with the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of what He created, from the evil of darkness as it envelops, from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”] (al-Falaq Q113:1-5).

[With the Name of Allah, the All Merciful, the Most Merciful. “Say: I take refuge with the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the Stealthy Whisperer, who whispers in people’s breasts, (coming) from the jinn and man.”] (al-Nas Q114:1-6).

[Allah, there is none worthy of worship save Him, the Living, the Self-Sustaining. He is not subject to drowsiness or sleep. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them but they cannot grasp any of His knowledge save what He wills. His Footstool encompasses the heavens and the earth and their preservation does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent.] (al-Baqarah Q2:255).

Laa ilaaha illallahu wahdahu laa shariika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyii wa yumiitu, wa huwa alaa kulli shay’in qadeer. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone who has no partner. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise. He gives life and He causes death; He has power over all things (10 times after morning and evening prayer).

Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman naafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan. O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, wholesome provision and deeds that will be accepted (after the morning prayer).

Allahumma a’innii alaa dhikrika, wa shukrika wa husni ‘ibaaadatika. O Allah! Assist me to remember You, to be grateful to You and to worship You in the best manner.

Subhaanallaah, walhamdulillaah, wa laa ilaha illallaahu, wallahu akbar. How perfect Allah is, all praise be to Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Allah is the Greatest (10 times).

I enjoin you all, O! servants of Allah, to be constant upon the messenger’s sunnah concerning these acts of remembrance. I ask Allah to benefit us with this and to forgive me my short comings. I also ask Allah to include us among his righteous servants and to include us among the dwellers of Al-Jannat ul Firdaws (Ameen).

Wassalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu
